1. More transparency on the algorithms. And more ability to program it yourself. For example, there are some writers I like who publish multiple times a week, they drown out other authors, so I’ve unfollowed them. Make a way to limit how many times a writer shows up on your feed as compared to others.

2. Revaluate claps and make them actually mean something. Many people still don’t know you can clap up to 50 times. I’d changed it to 1 to 5, and then be transparent on how that impacts the algorithms. (Not a fan of emojis.)

3. An option for direct messaging. I’d love to be able to invite some authors to write for my publication, or give someone a private comment, but it’s not meant for the world to see. Of course, we’d have the ability to block individuals or say no to DMs.

4. Much better tools to customize profiles and publication pages. I just don’t understand why they are so limited.

5. Return 4 free views a month. This is how I found Medium and joined up. This is how we get our articles to a wide audience. People are now giving away articles, it doesn’t incentivize people to join. The free link you share is free for ever.

6. Make a way for publishers/editors to make money. One way is to have people opt in to support a publication with micro payments, say $10 a year or a $1 a month.

7. Give us back better stats!
