A few comments... we used to have moderates in both major parties. Oregon had 2 moderate republican senators for years. What you're describing is a benefit of a smaller population state. But, I'd also say anyone can get more involved at th local level. One thing I started doing when COVID broke was start attending local Democratic party meetings. Even though I find a lot of substance lacking, I'm going to keep attending.
