Briefly, I'd define perception differently. "Input" suggests a one way data stream into us. My understanding of perception, is that data is outside of us, and we perceive it. How we perceive it depends on our own lenses and filters which can be impacted by experience (the past), our current emotional state (the present), and our hopes/expectations (the future).
