California is coming for your AR-15. Not to brag, but I called it. After the supreme court’s initial review of the Texas Heartbeat Act, where Justice Kavanaugh acknowledged the law’s enforcement tactic is nothing more than a loophole that could be exploited again with other constitutional rights, I tongue in cheek suggested letting this logic play out.
Just wait until Democrats in a liberal state write a law making selling an AR-15 illegal, but let the public enforce it. Well, we didn’t have to wait long.
According to a recent press release, California Gov. Gavin Newsom has directed his staff to work with the Legislature and Attorney General to pass a law that would enable private citizens to enforce California’s ban on assault weapons in a similar way the Texas law does. It would target “anyone who manufactures, distributes, or sells an assault weapon” in California.
Get out the popcorn.
