FWIW, I would not go solo for a long walk with a woman on a first date. If a date goes south, it's important for both parties to be able exit safely. For me, that's being in a familiar environment where both are comfortable, and it's public, ie: people around.
I had a woman suggest a first date with a six pack of beer and her dog down at a park by the river, which is isolated. I declined and offered to meet for coffee or tea in our downtown, which is very public and safe.
It shouldn't be hard to negotiate a location. If either party is being inflexible, that's the deal breaker. The woman with the dog? Never heard back from her, and that was fine with me. If you can't even acknowledge a counteroffer, I'm not interested.
