Gawd, the first part reeks. And while he’s not wrong on a number of things, it feeds a certain narrative about the ‘successful’ man. But I wonder how many of the corporate ladder crawler type actually need this advice. What makes this advice so damaging is that it’s likely guys playing video games in their basement who read it. They ain’t working hard, but sure do feel entitled.
The advice would be better and more humane if it also included this: if you’re single and childless, it’s ok to want the same in a partner, and someone who is complimentary. Any kind of advice that says shit like ‘remember, you’re the prize. You’re not a rescue package for someone else’s fractured fairy tale,’ should also say if you’re a single guy with a child, you ought to be willing to consider a woman with a child.
