Gun control snark is not productive
Gun control proponents ridicule of a proposed gun safety class suggests they don’t actually want to find a common middle ground on guns
I recently began following Shannon Watts on Twitter. Watts is the founder of Mom’s Demand Action, a grassroots public safety organization focusing on preventing gun violence. Per their website they work to “pass stronger gun laws” and to “close the loopholes that jeopardize the safety of our families.”
I’ve found Watt’s Twitter feed informative, witty and often scathing. With recent events like Kyle Rittenhouse taking matters into his own hands killing two in Kenosha and Rep. Russ Fulcher (R-ID) reportedly manhandling a female police officer at the capitol so he wouldn’t have to give up his precious gun, there’s a lot to ridicule in America’s aggressive gun culture.
However, the Mom’s Demand Action website doesn’t appear to encourage or condone derision. Rather, they “work in our own communities and with business leaders to encourage a culture of responsible gun ownership.”
This sounds great but is at odds with a recent Tweet by Watts where she says:
