I don't have any solutions, and I'm not an advocate for corporal punishment. But we are physical beings, and not all children learn through verbal redirection. In many elementary schools you cannot remove a child who is out of control. You can’t even use physical prompts. The physically aggressive kids who are not contained are not learning impulse control. And when that kid gets to be 13/14yo and 100+ pounds, it can be scary.

FWIW, I worked in psychiatric residential care and as an outpatient behavior skills trained that frequently worked with my client in public school setting. I’m pretty convinced that part of the problem is that we are scared of physical interventions. I’ll say again for anyone reading, physical interventions are not corporal punishment, or even punishment.
