I think she was more interested in him than friend zone. What I found out dating later in life is that there are women to take a 'wait and see' approach. But! They don't necessarily like it if a man takes a wait and see approach. The man is evaluating, the man is choosing. That means, the power, or control, or decision is shared. Some of those types of women don't like that.
