I work in mental health. A number of guys I know went on to police or corrections. I love these guys and I've seen them work with all manner of kids with compassion and kindness. My worry for them is this: what happens when they run into police culture? Will they be able to stand up to it, if they see abuse? I fear they won't, not because they lack integrity, but that the police code can't handle it. So it enforces obedience and loyalty to each other over what is right for the public at large. It's too much for an individual to challenge on their own.
