I work in mental health. Years ago when my organization was rolling out a new modality, the Sanctuary Model, the training materials highlighted a decent sized midwestern town that had adopted their program across their social services. They proudly talked of the improvements and new programs they opened for women, and stated they closed 2-3 men's shelters.
::shakes head:: I wish I was making this up. I've simply not been impressed with this program, or its next iteration. But that's not my point, when a woman is vulnerable, we say we should protect her. But when a man is vulnerable, it's still man up.
