Mr Bean did not respond to your reasonable concerns for safety. He wanted you to ignore your gut and come all the way to him, he didn't counteroffer anything that addressed your concerns. That's the dealbreaker. Good for you for recognizing it.

I'm sure there are men who are simply clueness to many issues of women's safety, but conflating meeting halfway with unilaterally compromising a woman's safety is a bad take. There's usually a whole range of meeting places from dark bars to well lit coffee shops from 70/30 to 60/40 to 50/50 away. And, there's a certain kind of woman who wants you to come all the way, all the time. To me it's a dealbreaker if a woman can't negotiate in good faith, right from the get-go.
