No doubt we're asking a lot more of marriage. I think Simon's point of reference is that post WWII onward, things have changed dramatically. Especially with what women want/will accept. The issue is men aren't part of the discussion. I'd say many men are doing that to themselves by clinging to an old model. I've done it to myself by reacting rather than defining my own concerns.
