Rather than HSP, I think better terms to focus on are introvert and extrovert. I think they're much more relatable and less likely to be dismissed. Framing it as a question; How do you recharge: do you need alone time/less stimulation, or do you recharge by being social or more activity?
My wife is an extreme introvert. I'm kind of a mix. I can be outgoing and social, but when I need to regenerate, I really limit my inputs. I think explaining it to a guy like a science project or a mechanical process would be more likely to elicit understanding, than asking for empathy.
