Thank you for writing this! I remember seeing Taming of the Shrew when I was dabbling in theater in college and thinking, why are we still doing this? My girlfriend at the time had been in a pair of short plays called Lone Star and Laundry and Bourbon around the same time. I’m not saying they were instant classics, but they were so more poignant, to me, than any Shakespeare play I’ve seen.
Perhaps the best play I’ve ever seen, an amazing local well cast production was A Shayna Maidel. I thought then, why have I never heard of this play before? The subject matter is tough, it’s not a ‘fun’ play. But 20 years later, I’ve still never seen it listed again. The last play I saw was Too Good to Say Goodbye. This play was, funny and so much more relatable than Shakespeare.
