This seems like the kind of thing that might be true, but I don't know that it is. When I was dating, and on OK Cupid, they had a question that asked something like; Do you prefer your partner to have more or less partners/experience than you? I was surprised how many women wanted more. I would guess it was about 50/50.
I queried some female friends at the time, and they admitted, they'd rather be with a guy who knew what he was doing. One admitted that she didn't know what her body was capable of until she had a good, experienced lover. Another said that she doesn't want to have to teach someone what to do.
None of this is scientific. But there are some studies that suggest it's unlikely that the average man has a higher 'body count' than the average woman. Men inflate their numbers, and women under report.
