You missed a step between early BBs and social media, the pay per hour/monthly sites like Delphi, Prodigy, CompuServe and AmericaOnline. We called them online community.

Other than that, we'll see how things play out. The algorithms are what can kill the internet. I keep waiting for a site that doesn't have them, or gives the end user the ability to program their own!
